Jesus, "the Son of David," told His followers that the Scriptures pointed to the Messiah’s suffering and sacrifice—something they overlooked due to their expectations of a conquering king. Similarly, the writer of Samuel describes David's wilderness experience, during which he endured ten years as a fugitive, fleeing oppression from the time he was anointed king until his coronation. This theme of enduring suffering while awaiting God’s kingdom illustrates that God's redemptive plans often contrast with our misguided expectations of ease and success. Instead, God uses our struggles and heartaches as pathways to His eternal purposes.
